Are Your Images Compelling?
A client of mine was very good at routinely posting on social media. It was textbook - no less than every 2 to 3 days. They would post something…anything. The issue wasn’t frequency. The issue was noise. Random posts don’t get points. They’re social media static.
Every business must have a good website and be on social media. Everyone is there. If you’re not there, potential clients who search for you online will wonder if you’re a real company or if you’re terribly unsuccessful.
Also, the problem is that since everyone is on social media, simply posting frequently will not help you stand out from your competition.
Compelling images cause social media scrollers to pause. If they pause, they are more likely listen to your message. Paired with good written content, a compelling image can get a customer to enter your shop - digitally or physically.
The tips for producing compelling images online are the same as practicing good photography.
Composition and Balance: Fill the frame, and make sure it’s not leaving awkward open space anywhere. Empty space, small subjects and odd placement make photos and business appear amateur.
Color and Contrast: Add depth and intrigue with color and contrast; however, don’t overdo it. Pick a color or two to boost, and don’t get crazy with the contrast.
Motion and Purpose: I often tell people in photoshoots to move (slowly) through a pose. You will find that it looks more natural and the viewer is drawn to a photo that represents motion rather than a static and stiff photo.
Additional tip: bringing down the highlights help smooth and balance the appearance of your photo.
